Government has assured the people of Namwala district, in Southern Province, of its commitment to protect their livelihoods through massive livestock vaccinations.
Chief government Spokesperson, Cornelius Mweetwa, said government had embarked on a mass vaccination of animals against Anthrax.
The Minister was speaking when he graced the 2023 Shikaumpa traditional ceremony of Chief Mukobela of Namwala district.
He said so far over 65,000 cattles had been vaccinated including 24,118 goats and 1,459 sheep.
“The government will not relent to supporting traditional leaders on issues affecting their wellbeing and that of their subjects,” Mweetwa said.
Meanwhile, Mweetwa described the visit of Paramount Chief Chiti Mukulu of the Bemba people of Mungwi district in Northern Procince at this year’s Shikaumpa ceremony as a clear testimony that traditional leaders are key partners in development, a beacon of peace and unity that reigns in the country.
“Traditional ceremonies provide a platform for uniting people, for uniting citizens in the country, a prerequisite for economic development,” he said.
Mweetwa added that government’s desire was that traditional leaders would continue to play their role of uniting citizens in the country, stating that peace and unity were key to development.
Chief Mukobela thanked the government for the various developmental projects it had put in place to better the lives of the people of Namwala through the enhanced Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
