4-year-old boy, allegedly assaulted by step-mother, tells court how he was assaulted

A four-year-old boy has pointed at the step-mom as the woman who assaulted him using knife, and what he referred to as a shamboko (whip).

The child told Lusaka Magistrate, Mutinta Mwenya, that the step-mother whom he referred to as ‘Mummy’ would beat him whenever he urinated on himself.

The Court was shown the dark marks caused by the whip all over the boy’s body such as the stomach and backside.

He was testifying in a matter in which a 29-year-old Longwe Ngosa is accused of assaulting the boy.

Ngosa, a wife of a Zambia Army officer of Appolo Barracks in Lusaka, pleaded not guilty to one count of assaulting a child.

The accused on unknown dates but between April 1 and July 31, 2023, assaulted her step son.

The minor told the Court that he was beaten on the face with a shamboko and hose pipe.

He further alleged that the accused used a knife to inflict injuries on him.

His teacher, Naomi Chisola, 29, broke down during her testimony while the vitcim’s late mother’s relative wept in silence.

“In the second week of June, 2023, we enrolled the victim, as a new pupil in the baby class. He came with his mother. At some point, the boy came with a bandaged wound and I asked who did that to him, he told me it was the mother who cut him using a knife.”

“I took a video using my phone and sent it to the Commanding officer and to a woman who stayed in the same area as the victim,” she said.

She told the court that all she wanted was justice for the child and broke down in tears.
