President Hichilema says late former Speaker’s distinguished service is inspiring

President Hakainde Hichilema says the late former Speaker of the National Assembly served different roles in his illustrious career with professionalism and honour.

Hichilema said serving in public offices was a difficult task but that the late Mwanamwambwa served different portfolios in a distinguished manner.

Speaking during the burial at the late former Speaker’s Palabana farm in Chongwe, the President said the late former Speaker’s distinguished service was inspiring.

“We are grateful for his contribution to the national development. We all need to learn from him and our duty is to carry on where he left,” the President said.

He also encouraged the family to remain strong.

Hichilema paid tribute to the widow, Catherine Mwanamwambwa who he described as a strong woman who made it possible for the late former Speaker to serve the country diligently.

And, speaking during the same occasion, family representative Dr Situmbeko Musokotane thanked the President and the first Lady Mutinta Hichilema for leaving their busy schedules to attend the burial.

Musokotwane who is Minister of Finance and National Planning also praised the Zambian people for granting the late former Speaker an opportunity to serve the nation in different capacities.

He further thanked the people that turned up in large numbers to mourn with the family.

Meanwhile, there was a 21 gun salute in honour of the late former Speaker.

Those in attendance at the burial included former Vice Presidents Enoch Kavindele and Dr Nevers Mumba.

Others were Speaker of the National Assembly Nelly Mutti, Chief Justice Mumba Malila, some senior Government officials and Members of Parliament both ruling and opposition.

Mwanamwambwa who died on October 21 has since been laid to rest.
