Govt focused on improving lives of Zambians —High commissioner to UK

Zambia’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Macenje Mazoka, has assured Zambian residents in London and Scotland that the government was focused on rebuilding the country’s economy, provide jobs and better lives of citizens.

The High Commissioner met with Zambians during Independence Day celebrations in London on Friday and in Glasgow last Saturday.

This is according to a statement issued in Lusaka on Tuesday by First Secretary for Press at the Zambian mission in the United Kingdom, Speedwell Mupuchi.

She assured Zambians that government was working hard to increase and improve access to development resources.

“Currently investor confidence in our economy is at an all-time high and that coupled with the increase in the constituency development funding in all of our 156 constituencies is giving Zambia the reboot that is required to help our nation prosper,” Mazoka said.

She said the increased Constituency Development Fund (CDF) would also help spur equitable development at local level.

“So every constituency has an equitable opportunity to use those resources to develop their communities based on local engagements. It’s not from the top – down, it’s more of a spoke-wheel type of leadership and that is an opportunity for Zambia,” Mazoka said.

She also hailed the existing strong collaboration between Zambia and the United Kingdom and Scotland in among other areas poverty reduction, promoting green economic development, and supporting governance and democracy.

Mazoka told Zambians that the government recognized the Diaspora as the country’s 11th province and was working on the principle of inclusivity without leaving anyone behind.

“But we must work together especially if we are going to meet our goal of becoming a middle-income country by 2030,” she said.

She said Zambia’s picture cannot be complete without the Diaspora and that the government was committed to promoting inclusive development and a fair society.

“So we call on all patriotic Zambians to work together with our government in addressing pressing development challenges by making submissions to the Public Private Dialogue Forum (PPDF) process,” she said.

She urged Zambians to be goodwill ambassadors for Zambia and be part of those taking responsible development to the country.
