The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has expressed concern over the growing prevalence of sexual gratification in colleges and higher institutions of learning.

“As you may be aware, within two months, the Commission arrested three lecturers at Copperbelt University for this crime, causing significant concern,” ACC Head of Corporate Communications, Timothy Moono, said.

“This practice not only exploits individuals’ vulnerabilities but also undermines trust and moral values within society,” he said during the 2023 third-quarter media briefing in Lusaka on Wednesday.

Moono emphasized the agency’s commitment to combat this immoral behavior and hold perpetrators accountable. It also encouraged victims to report these corrupt practices without fear.

Additionally, he noted a decrease in cases of misappropriation of funds in the latest Auditor General’s report for the 2022 Financial Year, attributing this to improved measures to safeguard public resources.

Moono stressed the need to further strengthen Integrity Committees in public institutions to eliminate audit queries.

He also highlighted the agency’s investigation of a significant number of corruption cases involving officials in the previous administration over the past two years.

In 2021, there were 73 cases before the courts of law, with 28 arrests made. In the current year, 38 arrests have occurred, and 147 cases are before the courts of law.

Moono affirmed the agency’s commitment to using all available legal means, including asset restrictions and seizures, to preserve evidence during investigations.

He assured the public that it would continue to carry out its mandate professionally and independently, free from external influence.
