Zambia’s Mission in the United States has embarked on an ambitious goal of getting local actors into Hollywood.
Zambia’s Ambassador to the United States, Chibamba Kanyama, said the embassy was targeting at least three actors to breakthrough in the next three years.
Kanyama said this in a Facebook post after
meeting America-based Zambian actor, Akende Munalula.
The Zambian envoy disclosed that Munalula was helping the mission to articulate strategies that would help get actors into Hollywood.
“One of the strategies of the Embassy of Zambia in the USA is to have Zambian actors break into Hollywood. If we can have even three in next three years, we will be satisfied. That can be a great starting point. Akende is helping us on specific strategies for the embassy to achieve that goal,” Kanyama posted.
Different social media users applauded the plan.
“Excellent initiative👏🎉 may there be much more than 3 actors making it in initial target phase🙏🏽,” one social media user wrote.
Another Facebooker urged the embassy to also focus on other aspects of film production, aside the actors.
“You’re a miracle to the art industry sir🙏🏽Let’s not just focus on actors but even other sectors/components in film production. Some of us are not just actors but we write scripts that might work well with his exposure to Hollywood. As an artist, I really appreciate your support.Twalumba kapati🙏🏽,” one social media user made an appeal.
Munalula has featured in high profile American films like ‘Boo 2! A Madea Halloween’ which was produced and directed by famed movie guru, Tyler Perry, ‘Unexpected Guests’ and television series ‘Counterpart’ and ‘The Salon’.
