King Litunga commends church at centenary event, pledges support for infrastructure development

King Litunga, Lubosi Imwiko the second, has pledged to support the church in order to bring meaningful development in Western Province.

Litunga said the teachings from the United Church of Zambia (UCZ) had reduced criminal activities in the province.

The traditional leader said this through his Ngambela Mukela Manyando at the closing celebration of Butoya UCZ centenary in Mongu on Sunday.

“Your word of God’s teachings has brought sanity and vices that were invading the province have reduced and for this we say as the traditional leadership will continue to offer you support,” he said.

Litunga urged members of the UCZ in the country to continue with their infrastructure development in areas of health and education.

“As the Barotse Royal Establishment in the province, we will endeavour to offer you support. From inception the early Parish Missionary Society, your church has helped in the construction of many schools and hospitals. Our people have enjoyed good health and got educated,” he said.

Litunga said the Barotse Royal Establishment (BRE) had enjoyed a cordial relationship with the UCZ starting from the earliest lineage of the Litungaship in Western province.

UCZ Synod Bishop Right Reverend, Sydney Sichilima, implored the Church members to respect the traditional leadership and other leaders in the province as leadership comes from God.

Sichilima also said the BRE had continued to support the efforts of the church, adding that UCZ leadership would enhance the wisdom tapped from traditional leadership in the province.

“Your Majesty the Litunga, we want to assure you that our church, your church will continue to partner with you so that we promote peace in this province,” he said.

The centenary celebration of the Butoya conference was commemorated in Western province under the theme, ‘Understanding the times and what to do’.
