Tanzanian President, Samia Suluhu Hassan, is expected to arrive in Zambia today, Monday on a state visit.

This is at the invitation of President Hakainde Hichilema, Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister, Stanley Kakubo, said.

Kakubo said in a statement issued in Lusaka on Sunday that Hassan was expected to be in the country from October 23 to October 25.

He said during the visit, the two leaders are expected to engage in substantive discussions covering a range of topics, including bilateral, regional, and global affairs.

Kakubo said the discussions would build on the state visit undertaken to Tanzania by President Hichilema in August 2022.

“Central to the agenda will be crucial infrastructure projects that link Zambia and Tanzania, including the Tanzania Zambia Railways (TAZARA), Tanzania Zambia Mafuta Pipelines Limited (TAZAMA) and the Nakonde-Tunduma One-Stop Border Post,” he said.

The Minister said the bilateral talks would culminate into the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) in key sectors such as trade, investment, energy and defence.

He added that Hassan would grace the 59th Independence Celebrations in Lusaka, and later officiate at the Zambia-Tanzania Business Forum.

The President, he said, would address the National Assembly of Zambia on Wednesday, October 25, 2023.

Kakubo noted that Zambia and Tanzania shared deep-rooted historical bonds, with their bilateral relations firmly grounded in the shared history of the liberation struggle.

“The visit by President Hassan, therefore, presents an excellent opportunity for Zambia to consolidate its partnership with Tanzania, focusing on pragmatic cooperation that will stimulate trade, foster investment, and ultimately unlock economic opportunities for the people of Zambia,” Mr Kakubo said.
