Developing Story: Court hears how politician Kambwili’s maid, others allegedly stole $160,000

Politician, Chishimba Kambwili’s maid, Esther Munyeka, has confessed to have bought a house in John Howard worth K250, 000 after allegedly stealing US$160,000 cash from his safe, an investigation officer told the Lusaka Magistrate Court.

Chief Inspector, Mulenga Chabu, testifying before Magistrate Nthandose Chabala, in a matter in which PF senior member, Chishimba Kambwili’s five domestic workers and a student have been dragged to Court for allegedly stealing US$160,000 cash.

They are charged with theft by servant.

Chabu who is based at Kabwata Police Station narrated that Munyeka was apprehended in Chawama, Komboka area while she was trying to flee with her husband, Jacob Sinadabwe, who was working as a soldier at Arakan Barracks.

He said the two were trying to escape using a black Toyota fan cargo, registration number BAR 4491.

He said after the duo was searched, the officers managed to recover K58,500 and US$2000.

“We then went to their house where we found new household goods which we also recovered. Among the new household goods was a black sofa and Star Africa 55 inch TV. When we interviewed the two further, Esther disclosed that she in fact bought a house in John Howard worth K250, 000,” he said.

Chabu said the house was seized by police.

He added that Munyeka revealed that she did not act alone and named the masterminded of the theft as Stacy Jane Jones, a friend to Kambwili’s daughter, who was living in the same house at time of the commission of the offence.

Others are Rodney Muntanga, a house boy, Milan Chembe, security personal and Charles Kamutengo, a garden boy.

Chabu said the suspects had already stopped reporting for work.

“We started looking for Muntanga. We went to his house and never found him. We then went to look for Chembe whom we apprehended.

Chembe indicated that he had kept some money at his sister’s house in Garden Township where we recovered US$5000 which was hidden in the sofa. He later took us to where he had parked his Toyota Corolla he bought out of this offence which we impounded,” he stated.

The officer said Muntanga later surrendered himself to the police and also named Stacy Jones as the mastermind of the whole crime.

“We recovered K39, 200 from Mutanga who also led us to Misisi at his girlfriend’s place, Ruth Zulu. We recovered US$5,100 from Ruth. We also recovered a black Toyota Allison ALR 7652. The Allison was gotten after he told us the list of items he bought out of the predicate offences,”

He testified that Mutanga also told the officers that he bought a Silver Runx registration BAR 4316 which was seized together with considerable amount of money.

He said the accused attempted to bribe the officers claiming they could too benefit from it.

He added that the accused also led officer to his bar and a plot where he was building a house in Kasupe area.

Chabu stated that the alleged mastermind was arrested in Ndola.

“We finally managed to locate Stacy Jones house in Chalala. But her sister told us she had gone to visit in Ndola, where we drove to and apprehended her. We later impounded the BMW car ALT 8464 that she was driving. The car was used the time they went to open the safe,”

“Charles Kamutengo also brought himself to the police. Kamutengo claimed that the money (Dollars) he went with was stolen by a female prostitute.”
