Water Development and Sanitation Minister, Mike Mposha, has blamed the Patriotic Front (PF) for the water woes in Lusaka following the shutdown of the Lolanda Water Treatment Plant.
Mposha claimed that had the ex-ruling party been serious in governing the country, Lusaka could not have suffered water scarcity.
He, however, said in a statement in Parliament on Thursday that following the completion of repair works on the Lolanda I Water Treatment Plant in Kafue, water blues in Lusaka would minimise.

“Engineers were working 16 hours daily and finished works within 11 days against the initial plan of 20 days and the plant is scheduled to resume full operations on October 22, 2023, exactly 34 days from the day works started.
“The Lusaka Water Supply and Sanitation Company had initially requested 30 days,” Mposha said.
Responding to a point of clarification from UPND Dundumwezi Member of Parliament, Edgar Sing’ombe, who wanted to know if the previous government invested enough in the water sector in Lusaka and the Copperbelt, Mposha claimed that in the past 10 years of the PF, there was no investment in the water sector.
“Daily demands of water in Lusaka is 480 million litres per day but the production capacity is 306 million litres per day resulting in 174 million litres deficit per day.
“In the past 10 years, there has not been investment in the water sector. Maybe there was so much dancing than investing in water,” Mposha said.
