The Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency (ZAMMSA) has announced that there had been significant progress in ensuring the availability of Mental Health and behavioral disorder products over the past few months.
ZAMMSA acting Director General, Victor Nyasulu, said the current stock stood at an impressive 32 percent, showcasing a marked improvement compared to previous months.
Nyasulu in a statement issued in Lusaka on Monday to mark “World Health Day”, said this showed ZAMMSA’s commitment to enhancing healthcare accessibility.
He said ZAMMSA anticipated a further boost in the mental health product inventory through other government to government interventions.
“The Agency also expects valuable contributions from our esteemed partners, including United Nations International Childrens Emergency Fund (UNICEF) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP),” Nyasulu said.
He said with these anticipated additions, ZAMMSA was poised to surpass a remarkable 70 percent availability of mental health commodities in the inventory in the next three months.
Nyasulu reaffirmed ZAMMSA’s unwavering dedication to making all essential medicines, including mental health and behavioural disorder commodities, accessible in healthcare facilities across Zambia.
“We understand the importance of prioritizing mental health, and it remains a fundamental aspect of our mission,” he said.

Nyasulu added that the Agency had secured readily available stock for mental health products valued and raised other procurement requests for Mental Health Commodities.
He said these achievements signify the Agency’s commitment to addressing the vital healthcare needs of the community.
“ZAMMSA remains committed to advancing healthcare accessibility, and we look forward to continuing our efforts in making quality healthcare accessible to all Zambians,” Nyasulu said.
