Body of late Zambia Air Force squash player, Mhango, arrives Lusaka

The body of Green Buffaloes Squash Club player, Prestone Mhango, as well as the injured players, have arrived in the country at the Zambia Air Force (ZAF) Lusaka Base.

Mhango died on Thursday, in Katima Mulilo after the vehicle he and other team members were traveling in developed a tyre burst.

This was on their way back from Namibia, where they were competing in the BDO Namibia Open Squash Tournament/ four Nations Test series.

The body and injured players arrived in Lusaka on Sunday, according to a statement issued by the ZFA communication team.

“Mhango, who joined the Army in 2019 as a professional squash player, was a double orphan who was raised by his grandmother.

“His remains are expected to arrive in Lusaka today, before they can be transported to Kitwe on the Copperbelt, where the funeral will be held,” the statement read.

Commander Zambia Army Lieutenant General, Sitali Dennis Alibuzwi, said Officers, Soldiers, and civilian staff of Zambia Army had expressed their sadness by his untimely death, and as per military tradition, the next of kin has been informed.

Eleven other passengers, including team chairman, Komani Bili, and team coach Bruce Chibabuka, sustained injuries and are currently under medical care.
