Police are looking for a woman of Chirundu District in Southern Province only identified as “Bamake Linos” in connection with the death of an eight-month-old child.

Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Danny Mwale, said the woman was said to have caused the death of the child identified as Emmanuel Siabasimbi after she performed a procedure of cutting the inner lining of the tongue.

Mwale in a statement issued in Lusaka on Saturday said the child was suspected to have died from bleeding after the failed procedure.

“Police preliminary investigations indicate that the couple (Mr and Mrs Siabasimbi) agreed to take their child to the named woman after they discovered that their child had an inborn disease known as tongue tie locally known as ‘kalimba,” Mwale said.

He said the woman conducted the procedure and in the process the baby bled profusely and was later rushed to Mtendere Mission Hospital where it was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Mwale said the body was in the same Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
