Hichilema fires Minister of Information, Kasanda; names Mwamba Auditor-General. See other appointments

President Hakainde Hichilema has with immediate effect fired Information and Media Minister Chushi Kasanda.

Hichilema’s action is in pursuant to Article 1 16 (3) (a) of the Constitution, according to a statement issued in Lusaka on Monday by State House Chief Communications Specialist Clayson Hamasaka.

Hamasaka said Hichilema has since appointed Choma Central Member of Parliament Cornelius Mweetwa as Minister of Information and Media.

“Hichilema has since transferred Credo Nanjuwa to be Minister for Southern Province and has since appointed Keembe Member of Parliament Princess Kasune as Minister for Central Province pursuant to Article 1 16 (l) of the Constitution,” he said.

Hamasaka said Hichilema has further removed Anna Songolo from the office of Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries pursuant to Article 270 of the Constitution.

“Hichilema has transferred the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Information and Media Kennedy Kalunga to Cabinet office and has since appointed Thabo Kawana as Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Information and Media subject to Article 184 (l) of the Constitution,” he said.

Hamasaka said the President had also, in exercise of the powers vested in him under Article 249 (l) of the Constitution appointed, Ron Mwambwa, as Auditor General subject to ratification by the National Assembly.
