The ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) has challenged former president, Edgar Lungu, to return to active politics rather than hiding in the name of attending functions such as church service, traditional ceremonies, among others.
UPND Spokesperson, Cornelius Mweetwa, said Lungu had the democratic right to come back to active Politics.
Mweetwa who is also Southern Province Minister said this in Nyawa area where he graced the 2023 Guta Mwenzebwe Traditional Ceremony of Chief Nyawa in Kazungula District on Sunday.
He said Lungu should stop hiding under activities such as jogging early in the morning or any other time but come back to active politics so that he can be defeated again.
“Let me indicate that if Lungu is desirous of coming back to active politics, that is his democratic and constitutional right, he is free, he will find us here where we defeated him,” Mweetwa said.
He said Lungu should come back to active politics so that Cabinet can remove him from the payroll and he can stop wasting tax payers money.
“Let him stop hiding behind the vell of attending Church, traditional ceremonies and jogging around with people who are stage managed, we want him to come out in the open, come back to politics and stop being on tax payers payroll,” Mweetwa said.

At the same ceremony, Chief Nyawa requested government to expedite the process of declaring Nyawa area as a district due to the distance of getting to Kazungula District town.
He also hoped that the area would this year have a bumper harvest as a result of farmers working hard and doubling their crop yield.
