The Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency (ZAMMSA) has announced the procurement of essential medicines that would check the death of women during pregnancy and childbirth.
Its Public Relations Manager, Bradley Chingobe, said this was in the quest to curb the incidence of maternal mortality cases in Zambia.
Chingobe in a statement issued in Lusaka on Saturday said substantial quantities of Oxytocin, a crucial medication for maternal health, had been procured by and effectively received in the country.
He said the distribution of Oxytocin to the over 3,000 public healthcare facilities in Zambia would commence soonest.
“This strategic procurement reinforces ZAMMSA’s dedication to improving the standards of maternal healthcare in our country,” Chingobe said.
He said the agency remained resolute in its support for infection control during medical procedures and examinations.
Chingobe said the organization was actively receiving sufficient quantities of surgical gloves, an integral component of the strategy to ensure a safe and hygienic healthcare environment.
“As an Agency, that is in the business of saving lives, we remain committed to enhancing the availability of medical resources and strengthening healthcare delivery countrywide,” he said.
