The Zambia Compulsory Standards Agency (ZCSA) has seized 240 boxes of counterfeit shoe polish valued at at K480, 000.
Agency Head of Communications, Brian Hatyoka, said the counterfeit polish branded Kiwi was seized on Tuesday from Wanli Investment Limited off Chandwe Musonda Road in Lusaka.
Hatyoka in a statement issued in Lusaka on Tuesday said the seized shoe polish products have since been withdrawn from the market and are in ZCSA custody pending disposal.
“The Agency is warning business entities to desist selling counterfet products which are covered by compulsory Standards as they may pose a risk to public safety and health,” he said.
Hatyoka said measures had been put to ensure high levels of compliance including frequent random surveillances and also public awareness activities through print media and road shows.

He said shoe polish was covered by a Compulsory Standard, Zambian Standard (ZS) 074 and therefore it was subjected to inspection, sampling and testing for the purposes of determination of compliance to the requirements of the standards.
“ZCSA carries out random market surveillance inspections on all products covered by compulsory standards to monitor compliance of products to their respective compulsory standards,” Hatyoka said.
