Copperbelt Minister, Elias Matambo, has said the government will continue working with the church in its development agenda.
Katambo said during a briefing with Ndola Christian Ministers Fellowship (NCMF) led by Bishop Amos Kanyakula at the Copperbelt Provincial Administration in Ndola on Friday.
“Members of the clergy are more sincerely for acknowledging many achievements under our Head of State Hakainde Hichilema in the last two years,” he said.
He said government and the church were partners in development striving to uplift living standards of the same people.
He assured the church that the government was aware and committed to addressing challenges such as the escalating mealie-meal prices and unlocking Konkola Copper Mine (KCM) and Mopani Copper Mine.
Matambo told the clergy that the two giant mines were a backbone of the Zambian economy as the country aims to achieve the ‘elusive’ million tonnes of copper in the next few years.

“We urged our people on the Copperbelt and beyond that the government is making strides to have the two mines opened like yesterday, so far the negotiations have reached at a concluding stages soon the announcement will be made,” he said.
Matambo assured the members of the clergy that Ndola-Mufulira -Sakania -Mokambo, Road Project would be signed in few days.
Additionally, he said Chibuluma Road Project which would be wholly funded by the Zambian government, with the contract awarded to East to West Construction and Mining Limited .
“The groundbreaking ceremony will be held in few days to signal the start of construction of concrete road first of its kind in the country,” Matambo revealed.
Other roads that are earmarked for construction include Mukutuma-Lumpuma road, Mpongwe-Machiya Road and selected feeder roads on the Copperbelt Province.
