Group moves to deepen use of electric vehicles in Zambia’s transportation industry

The Zambian Electric Mobility Innovation Alliance (ZEMIA) will embark on an ambitious project aimed at driving use of electric vehicles for public transportation in the coming months.

This is part of its efforts to serve as a unifying platform, engaging stakeholders of diverse backgrounds while working collaboratively to propel growth and development.

Co-Founder and President, Kabayo Muhau, said in response to a press query from Zambia Monitor in Lusaka on Tuesday that it was part of its advocacy efforts to deepen the Electric Vehicle (EV) ecosystem across the nation.

“The alliance has established meaningful connections within these spheres and proudly earned its place as the second African association to join the esteemed Global EV Association (GEVA), an accomplishment following South Africa’s lead.

“It is noteworthy that we played an instrumental role in effecting a reduction of customs duties for electric vehicles in the 2023 National budget,” Muhau said.

He said the platform was established last year, and stands as the pioneering entity committed to advancing electric mobility within Zambia.
