The Zambia Police has vowed to defend the constitution at any cost, and will do what it takes to smash any rebellion being instigated by the Socialist Party and its leader, Fred M’membe.
Inspector General of Police, Graphel Musamba, said the Police Command had noted with serious concerns the utterances recently made by M’membe.
Addressing a media briefing in Lusaka on Tuesday, Musamba said the Police was mandated with the responsibility of maintaining law and order in the country and detection of crime among others.
He said as such, the Police would not sit and watch while an individual makes utterances capable of causing anarchy in the country.
“The statements published in some tabloids and various social media platforms are inclined at nothing but inciting the peace loving people of Zambia to lapse into a civil disobedience in order for them to gain the scarce political mileage,” Musamba said.
He added that in the history of the country, people with frivolous dreams such as the Socialist Party had been defeated.
“Him referring to military juntas in West Africa, only means one thing, to distabalise the peace in the country being enjoyed. Is this the socialism he is preaching about?, bringing military coups,”Musamba inquired.
He said the Police would not allow such schemes to succeed and cautioned M’membe and his party to quits plans aimed at destabilizing the country.

Musamba said the same applies to every citizen who might be in the process of being influenced for the same ideas.
He said Zambia was not for selfish individuals being championed by desperate politicians.
“The emerging juntas in West Africa he is referring to, is wishful thinking that the same be extended to this country. We are carefully studying the ingredients of the offence, and we will let you know in due course what his fate is going to be,” Musamba said.
