Police caution Nawakwi for threatening violence, detain Soko for alleged forgery

Police in Lusaka have recorded a warn and caution statement from Forum for Democracy and Development president, Edith Nawakwi, in relation to the alleged offences of threatening violence and abduction contrary to the Laws of Zambia.

Police Spokesperson, Rae Hamoonga, said in a statement issued in Lusaka on Saturday that the offences were alleged to have occurred between September 2020 and May 2022.

He explained that Nawakwi whilst acting together with others unknown did threaten to cause injury to Pheluna Hatembo and Milton Hatembo.

“She threatened to cause injury if they did not sign documents intended to be filed for motion in the High Court meant for sale of farm 1924 in Kalomo District of Southern Province of Zambia which is owned by President Hakainde Hichilema, ” Hamoonga said.

He said Nawakwi threatened to kill and cause injury to the Hatembos if they did not follow her instructions to sign the documents in relation to the farm.

Hamoonga said the duo ran away from their maternal homes in fear of being harmed by Nawakwi.

“In the second offence of Abduction, it is alleged that Nawakwi whilst acting with others unknown did force the Hatembos into confinement against their will at different lodges after she deceitfully asked them to travel to Lusaka from Choma that she was going to assist them in a matter she had prepared,” he said.

Hamoonga also disclosed that Chilenje Police on Thursday detained former Road Transport and Safety Agency Director Zindaba Soko, aged 45, of Libala old Lilayi Road in Lusaka, for the alleged offence of Forgery.

“This is in connection with a Zambian National Registration Card bearing the names of the late John Tembo and a Zambian passport with the same names which he obtained for a male Ugandan Kisambara Kelvin Smith,” he said.
