Government urged to probe crisis in healthcare delivery

United Prosperous Party of Zambia (UPPZ) has called on government to investigate the root cause of the healthcare crisis.

Party president, Charles Chanda, said there was need to implement watertight health care laws that would hold lawbreakers accountable and bring justice to the victims.

Chanda told Zambia Monitor that government had often failed to take responsibility for tackling the issue of lack of medicine in health facilities.

He said government had instead chosen to blame the theft and mismanagement of drugs in the healthcare facilities as the root cause of the problem.

Chanda called on the government to take immediate and effective measures to address the issue with the seriousness it deserves.

“Adequate healthcare is a human right that should be accessible to every citizen, irrespective of their location or social status,” he said.

Chanda said despite claiming to be a developing nation, the citizens of Zambia were still struggling with basic access to healthcare and medicine.

“It is with deep sadness that we address the ongoing crisis of healthcare in different parts of our beautiful country, especially in the capital city of Lusaka.
It is unacceptable that in the year 2023, our people are still suffering and dying due to lack of proper healthcare facilities and essential medicines,” he said.

Chanda said it was high time government prioritized the health and well-being of Zambians, and this can only be achieved if a lasting solutions to the problem was urgently found.
