North-western Water Supply and Sanitation MD, director arrested for alleged corrupt practices

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has arrested the North-western Water Supply and Sanitation (NWWSS) Managing Director, Happy Musumali, and Director of Engineering, Chanda Mulenga, for corrupt practices.

ACC Head of Corporate Communications, Timothy Moono, said Musumali, 47, of House No. 6, Water Village in Solwezi had been arrested and charged with twelve counts of abuse of office.

Moono in a statement issued in Lusaka on Friday said Musumali’s act was contrary to section 21(1)(a) of the Anti-Corruption Act No. 3 of 2012.

He said Musumali had also been charged with four counts of willful failure to follow guidelines contrary to section 34 of the Anti-Corruption Act No. 3 of 2012.

“Chanda Mulenga, 51, of T5, Kariba Road in Kansenshi, Ndola has been arrested and charged with one count of willful failure to comply with procedure in management of a contract,” Moono said.

He said this was contrary to Section 34(2)(b) of the ACC Act No. 3 of 2012 and two counts of obtaining money by false pretenses contrary to Section 309 (a) of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

“The suspects have been remanded in custody and are expected to appear in court soon,” Moono said.
