Luapula Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) has asked President Hakainde Hichilema to assemble a new team to run the province.

Emmanuel Munsanje, LCCI president, stated that provincial administration had been running on an interim leadership after the sack of Provincial Minister, Derrick Chilundika, and deputy permanent secretary, Roy Mwaba, among others.

“Because of the sugilite scandals leading to the removal of government officials from their positions, Luapula continues to be managed on a skeletal leadership,” Munsanje said in an interview on Wednesday.

He observed that despite the central government constantly releasing funds under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), projects were being delayed because of lack of necessary supervision.

Munsanje said Luapula needed serious leadership that could utilise CDF funds to work on feeder roads and ensure speedy execution of projects.

He said the government should also come up with a road map to legalise mining of sugilite.

“Something has to be done, an immediate roadmap on legalisation of operations of the sugilite minerals, illegal miners go in the night, we want miners to start working in daylight.”
