Mines Minister, Kabuswe, says Mopani investor to be known month-end, July

Government has announced that a preferred bidder to take over the running of Mopani Copper Mines will be announced by July 31.

Four companies were shortlisted following the submission of non-binding offers and later the binding offers.

Mines and Minerals Development Minister, Paul Kabuswe, made the announcement at a Media briefing held with Mine Workers Union in Lusaka.

“It is the intention of government to close the deal by 31st July 2023. Government will inform the nation of the successful bidder after the evaluation of the binding offers,” he said.

Kabuswe said the Ministry received non-binding offers in April and May from four bidders and received presentation from them and as of Monday July 10, 2023, the Ministry received final bidding offers.

“We are now talking days, it’s a matter of days and the nation will be informed, government will inform the nation of the successful bidder after the evaluation of the bidding offers,” Kabuswe said.

On Konkola Copper Mines (KCM), the Minister said government is hoping that the matter involving the court process will be resolved with this month and the citizens will be informed.

“So far only one matter is still outstanding but a very important matter to ensure that the interests of the people of Zambians are protected,” he said.
