China-Jiangshu International Economic Technical Cooperation has expressed interest to set up a prefabricated housing factory to manufacture panels for use in the construction of highrise apartments and low cost houses in Zambia.
Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development Minister, Charles Milupi, revealed this in a statement issued in Lusaka on Wednesday.
Milupi and a delegation from his Ministry had visited the organization on Wednesday.
He said government, and indeed the Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development would support the investment and ensure it was actualised as it would help in reducing the housing deficit in the country.

“We, however, hastened to mention here that as the Chinese firm develops this factory and any infrastructure undertaking in Zambia, especially in the housing and road sectors, they have to observe the three fundamentals of the infrastructure/investment being procured at the correct price; projects must be delivered according to prescribed specifications and quality; and projects must be delivered in a timely manner,” Milupi said.
He noted that the organization had built high quality infrastructure in China, and government wanted to see this quality replicated on all the projects in Zambia.
“We look forward to China-Jiangshu International Economic Technical Cooperation’s coming to Zambia for the ground-breaking ceremony marking the start of the prefabricated factory,” Milupi said.
