The Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) has announced that it is set to start implementing the Anniversary Licensing for Motor Vehicles and Trailers in the country.
It indicated that it will start the implementation of the Anniversary Licensing for Motor Vehicles or Trailers on July 7, 2023.
This follows the enactment of the Road Traffic (Amendment) Act No. 8 of 2022 into law on 9th August 2022, says RTSA acting Head – Public Relations, Mukela Mangolwa, in a public noticed issued on Friday.
Mangolwa explained that this measure would effectively address the challenge of long queues experienced at RTSA service centres at the end of every calendar quarter.

“For example, if you registered your motor vehicle or trailer on May 26, 2023, your vehicle licence (road tax) will run effective this date for either 12 months, six months nine months or three months depending on your preferred cycle of licensing,” he cited.
He said this entailed that a Motor Vehicle or Trailer would have a twelve-month cycle of licensing from the date of first registration.
He pointed out that a Motor Vehicle or Trailer License would be in force in the case of an annual licence, saying would be valid for twelve months from the date of first registration of the motor vehicle or trailer.
“A Motor Vehicle or Trailer License would be in force in the case of; a half-yearly licence, will be valid for six (6) months from the date of first registration of the motor vehicle or trailer; and
“A quarterly licence, will be valid for three months from the date of first registration of the motor vehicle or trailer,” Mangolwa said.
