The Chipolopolo Boys have qualified for the next round of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) after beating the elephants of Ivory Coast by 3 goals to nil in a thrilling match played at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.
The visitors started on a strong note commanding play and creating chances and their efforts resulted in a goal in the 30th minute, albeit scoring in their own net.
In a fully parked Stadium, the Chipolopolo led the Elephants through an own goal from Serge Aurier who was put under pressure from Fashion Sakala in the 30th minute of the game.
The second goal came in the 47th minute from Patson Daka barely two minutes from half time and Klings Kangwa scored the 3rd goal in the 54th minute to seal the win.
Zambia now leads group H with 12 points while Ivory Cost is in second place with 10 points with Comoros in third position and Lesotho in fourth.
The Chipolopolo will now face Comoros in their last away game while Ivory will face Lesotho at home.
The AfCON Ivory Coast 2023 will kick-off on January 13, 2024 at the 60,000 seater Stade Olympic Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan.
The final will be played on Sunday, February 11, 2024 and Zambia’s Chipolopolo Boys will be among the 24 teams at the 34th AfCON edition after missing the 2017, 2019 and 2021 played in 2022 in Gabon, Egypt and Cameroon, respectively.
