Leader of opposition, Mundubile, alleges underground moves to cover up corruption cases

Leader of the opposition in Parliament, Brian Mundubile, has accused government of reprimanding and transferring officers at the Audit General’s Office in order to cover up on corruption cases which have been cited by that office.

Mundubile said the transfers were effected following the recent revelations on the manner in which the K65million forfeited to the State by Faith Musonda was handled by government and the Ant-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The Mporokoso Patriotic Front (PF) Member of Parliament made the accusations during a media briefing in Lusaka on Friday held at Parliament Grounds.

He alleged that government is scared of the audits which are coming from the Auditor General’s Office and the Financial Intelligence Centre which has also revealed that K6.1billion suspicious transactions have so far been made under the new dawn government.

“The FIC report is already out, K6.1billion worthy of questionable transactions, you remember how President Hakainde Hichilema would get excited about these reports in the past,” Mundubile said.

He is shocked and surprised that Members of Parliament from the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) are conspicuously silent over these issues when they were outspoken during their opposition days.

“What kind of government do we have? We have a government that does not want to look at itself in the mirror because the picture is very ugly, every reasonable government waits for an audit report to be able to understand and know how they are positioning themselves,” he said.
