Among those affected officers were commissioners and Detective Chief inspectors.

The officers on December 30, 2022,after not receiving their salary, decided to petition the Attorney General seeking an order of the court that they be paid their withheld salaries and terminal benefits.

They told the Court that they stopped working on October 6, 2022 with their employments terminated effective September 28,2022.

The petitioners stated that decision of the State to remove them off the payroll without paying the them terminal benefits was unconstitutional and contrary to the provisions of article 189 (1) ( 2 ) of the constitution of Zambia.
