Local authority scouts for burial site in Lusaka

Lusaka City Council (LCC) says it is expediting the process of finding alternative areas to create cemeteries following the dwindling of burial spaces in the City.

LCC Public Relations Manager, Chola Mwamba, said this in a statement issued in Lusaka on Tuesday.

Mwamba said the Local Authority is still doing its due diligence on one of the proposed 60 hectares land for a cemetery in Mikango area located approximately 40Kilometres from the Central Business District.

She said the proposed land is priced at K35 million however, the Local Authority is still negotiating the offer and the feasibility of usage of land as a cemetery.

” We have also continued compiling our technical findings on the land and once completed, the findings will be submitted to the Health Committee for approval,” she said.

Mwamba further said the Council is trying to secure more land for the same purpose from all the four corners of Lusaka.

“The Council is committed to ensure that the City acquires alternative land for creating cemeteries for the final disposition of the deceased as provided for under the Public Health act cap 295 of the laws of Zambia,” she said.
