Group advocates digital land titling to end red tape, corruption in land administration

Zambia Land Alliance (ZLA), an organization dedicated to land equity in Zambia, says shifting to digital land titling and data storage will end red tapes associated with land administration in the country.

ZLA Executive Director, Patrick Musole, said many land holders have had their files missing or misplaced, which was very inconveniencing.

“We commend government for the successful digitalisation of the Land information systems. For a long time, the management land information in Zambia has been a matter of concern, “Musole said in a statement on Monday.

He said the transition to digital land information management systems would put to end an era of missing files.

“People travel to Lusaka to follow up on their land documentations, we believe this progressive move will end corruption as there will be minimal interactions with human elements, Musole said.

Nevertheless, he urged government to ensure that there is enhanced cyber security to avoid the land information system being compromised or tempered with.

“Land information is very sensitive, and should be protected with the highest security available, ” Musole said.

ZLA is a network of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) advocating for fair land policies, laws and administrative systems that take into account the interests of the poor and marginalised in society.
