Talented young female painter, Nyembezi Mwanza, says more needs to be done to uplift the
status of painting and painters in the country.
Mwanza took part in the Durban Young arts exhibition in 2021, and the Livingstone Youth arts exhibition in 2023 where she emerged runner up.

This year, her arts group aims to establish an arts school in Lusaka Rhodes Park where young girls and boys can enhance there painting skills.
Mwanza told the Zambia Monitor in an interview in Lusaka recently that art can be sustaining if efforts to develop it were put in place.
“Painting can be sustaining in Zambia, and we find that most of the people in Zambia love painting but, however, the art is not well recognized in the country. I would be happy if painting was recognized because most of us young people would find a career in doing so,” she said.
Mwanza said her love for painting dates back to her childhood years.
“I used to draw a lot when I was a kid, and since then I got motivated and gained interest and then decided to take it in school,” she said.
She said painting helps one to relax and reflect on the beauty of nature.
“Painting is so much fun, when you love nature, and in your spare time you just get your compass and gather your paint together and paint something like the bush, or your backyard, or your own photo and do your own portrait, as you enjoy the experience, which is quite fun,” she said.
