MDOT ‘23 lights up Livingstone with ‘laka’ vibes

Spectacular in every sense, the 2023 Mosi Day of Thunder (MDOT) showcased the best of Zambian talents just this passed weekend.

Now in its sixth run, it drew thousands of music enthusiasts from across the nation and neighbouring countries to the tourism capital of Livingstone and its home.

What stole the show were the electrifying performances by some of the biggest names in Zambian music being Yo Maps, Slap Dee, Chef 187, Xaven, Chile One, and Neo Slayer, who lit up the stage with their diverse yet equally entertaining musical styles.

They ensured that the Livingstone-based musical act Skyempire was exposed, as well as others also graced the thunderous stage.

Tourism Minister, Rodney Sikumba, lauded the MDOT’s commitment to showcasing local talent on an what has now grown to be an international stage, attracting people from all walks of life – local and tourists alike.

“As evidenced by today’s event, Zambian artists perform exceptionally well and are ready to represent the country when they go out there. This particular event is deliberate, to ensure that local artists are showcased, and because of this, we as the Ministry of Tourism together with the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts will be able to start incubating these artists to ensure that they reflect Zambia to the world. We all have the task of making people know where Zambia is,” he said.

Mayor of Livingstone, Constance Nalishebo Muleabai, reiterated the Minister’s message, urging local musicians, and other creatives to take advantage of such platforms and the deliberate measures government has put in place to ensure that Zambian music and arts are promoted.
