Public workers in the country should familiarise themselves with the United Party for National Development (UPND) manifesto to enable government programmes run smoothly, a UPND official has said.

Copperbelt UPND Deputy Information and Publicity Secretary for Politics, Sam Mwikisa, said civil servants should read the ruling party’s manifesto to understand the party’s blueprint.

“As Copperbelt UPND, we encouraged all civil servants to read our Manifesto when we formed government so that they understand the developmental blueprint on which Zambians ushered us into power and so that we all pull in the same direction in the pursuit to give acceptable service to our people,” Mwikisa said.

He said this in a statement on Thursday in reaction to the directive by President Hakainde Hichilema that all luxury vehicles bought recently be sold off.

“The UPND Policy is not to spend on luxury but on social sector to boost standards of living for disadvantaged Zambians who are vulnerable to poverty and in need of state support.

“As UPND party in government, our commitment while in opposition and at the time we formed government was to immediately stop excessive public expenditure and borrowing so that resources could be allocated to improve social security and care for all Zambians,” Mwikisa said.

He said the party was dismayed to learn that some civil servants have bought luxury vehicles for office use at the expense of vulnerable Zambians against the UPND policy which Zambians supported in 2021.
