Thabo Kawana, of the Ministry of Information, has accused the former rulling party, Patriotic Front (PF) of ‘messing’ up the economy through reckless borrowing.
Kawana said on Diamond Media on Wednesday that while the United Party for National Development (UPND) administration was working on fixing the ‘mess’ they created while in power, the former rulling party had no shame to continue casting aspersions.
“The economic challenges the country is going through is because of reckless borrowing and failing to pay after borrowing, they were borrowing without a vision but they have the audacity to start blaming UPND for the messs they created,” Kawana charged.
He said most Zambians cannot fall for PF’s lies as they were appreciating government efforts in fixing the economy.
Kawana said instead of investing the first Eurobond in productive sectors of the economy, the money went into people’s pockets.
He cautioned the media to take to task PF leaders peddling lies on their platforms adding that it was hypocritical for them to turnaround and start blaming government for their failures.

Kawana said as announced by Finance and National Planning Minister Situmbeko Musokotwane, the debt restructuring was likely to be achieved at the end of the first quarter of 2023 because the government currently enjoyed international good will .
He also said very soon the shortage of essential medical supplies would be over as the government has procured huge medicines consignment that would be in delivered soon .
Kawana said it was unfair for some quarters to expect the UPND and President Hakainde Hichilema to fulfill all the promises in less than two years the party was given a five year mandate.
“Zambians will decide best on how the UPND performs in five years whether to retain the UPND or not ,” he said.
