Konkola Copper Mines PLC (KCM) has appointed Shapi Shachinda as Nchanga Rangers Football Club president and tasked his Executive Committee (ExCo) to avoid relegation.
According to a statement issued by Company Secretary for KCM and Nchanga Rangers Football Club Limited,Maxwell Mainsa, Shachinda has been tasked to take necessary steps that will ensure the team remains in the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) Super Division.
Shachinda was until his appointment one of the Club vice Presidents.
Mainsa stated that Victor Mpundu would continue in his role as Vice President.
Other ExCo members that would continue in their roles are Emmanuel Simbeye (Secretary), Ronald Simwanza (Treasurer), Peter Sakala (Technical Director), and Matyola Haanyama (Vice Secretary).
The KCM letter to Shachinda partly read that, “The company wishes to inform you that you have been appointed as Club president with immediate effect in addition to your current role as Director at Nchanga Rangers Football Club Limited.”
Shachinda has also been tasked to reorganise the Club’s management.
“I accept the appointment with humility and fully understand the task to ensure Nchanga Rangers remains in the Super Division after the current campaign,” Shachinda said.

He said the ExCo team, technical bench and the players would work extra hard to fulfill the objectives of the sponsors, supporters and fans as well as other partners of the Club.
Shachinda urged supporters to support the team, during home matches and away games.
To Shachinda, the remaining seven Super League games would be like Cup finals for Nchanga Rangers to fight relegation.
Nchanga is currently on a relegation top four zone with 31 points, so they have to win an average of four games convincingly to avoid relegation to Division one.
