The Chipata City Council has cleared all the salaries arrears for its workers contrary to claims propagated by its councilor.
Council Town Clerk Aaron Kamalondo traded accusations over salary arrears with Nsingo Ward Councilor under Luangeni Constituency Frank Phiri.
Kamalondo confirmed to journalists in Chipata on Thursday that the council has cleared all the salaries apart from the March 2023 salary.
But Phiri accused the Chipata City Council management of massive mismanagement of funds collected through local revenue creating unnecessary salary arrears on the contractual workers.
Kamalondo said it was not true that the council was owing it’s employees salaries as alleged by one of the councillors.
He said the council was suppose to give a correct picture to one of the media pertaining to the salaries.
“Infact, this councillor can be suspended for giving the nation the wrong information regarding the salaries and the other thing he can be suspended from the council,”Kamalondo explained.
He said no councillor was allowed to give information to the media apart from himself and the Chipata Mayor George Mwanza
