Two suspects arrested for being in possession of 119 ATM cards, 19 SIM cards

Police in Lusaka have arrested two suspects who were found with 119 Zanaco ATM cards and 19 subscriber identification module (SIM) cards for Airtel and MTN suspected to have been stolen.

The suspects aged between 27 and 37 concealed the ATM cards and Sim cards in a bag which also contained an ATM verification machine and bank documents.

This is according to a statement issued by the Police Deputy Public Relations Officer Danny Mwale on Monday.

“Police were tipped off by a concerned member of the community in Ibex Meanwood on March 4, 2023 around 14:00 hours and immediately rushed to the house where a search was conducted.

“The ATM cards and sim cards were found concealed in a bag which also contained an ATM verification Machine and some bank documents,” he said.

Mwale said the suspects were in police custody while Investigations were underway.

In another development, Mwale said unknown people had stolen K21, 000 cash after breaking into a car.

Mwale said the money was withdrawn from a bank at Waterfalls mall before the owner drove to one of the shops located in the same area.

He said the victim parked and locked the motor vehicle before walking into the shop leaving his money in the car compartment.

“Unknown suspected criminals have broken into a Jeep Cherokee where they stole K21, 000 after forcing the driver’s door open. When the victim returned to where he had parked the car, he discovered that the door was tampered with and money missing,” Mwale said.
