50 companies to be prosecuted for failure to register with solid waste service provider

Lusaka Integrated Solid Waste Management Company has issued 50 summons to accused business owners in the Central Business District (CBD).

This has been done through the fast-track court situated at Civic Centre in Lusaka.

The 50 business owners are all expected to appear in court on the March 14, 2023 without fail, says Company Chief Executive Officer Lmuwana Mwanamwalye.

He said the business owners in the CBD were first served with notices for the period of seven days in which they were required to subscribe to the solid waste service providers in their respective areas.

Mwanamwalye said all the summons that were issued were in line with the Solid Waste Regulation and Management Act No.20 of 2018 of the laws of Zambia.

“All the business owners have been charged with the offence of failure to register with the solid waste service provider contrary to Section 24 (5) (a) of the Solid Waste Regulation and Management Act No. 20 of 2018, of the laws of Zambia,” he said in a statement issued on Saturday.

He has since warned all business owners that would fail to appear on the stated date at Court, that the Company would be left with no option but to apply for a bench warrant for their arrest.

“Let us keep Lusaka clean and green,” Mwanamwalye said.
