Police in Lusaka have detained five people for the offence of Malicious Damage to Property involving a minibus for Capital Bus Services.
Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Danny Mwale, said the five suspects were alleged to have damaged the windows of the minibus bearing registration number BAJ 7795 after a failed attempt to get money (loading fee) from the conductor.
“The incident occurred on February 23, 2023 around 17:30 hours along Freedom Way in Lusaka. Police officers rushed to the scene where the suspects were apprehended.
“They were identified as Thomas Phiri aged 25 of City shine, Godfrey Nkole aged 20 of North Gate Gardens, Simon Nkole aged 40 of 10 Miles, Donald Mwaba aged 34 and Chrispine Mwale aged 27,” Mwale said in a statement issued on Friday in Lusaka.

He explained that the suspects were in custody waiting to appear in court soon.
Meanwhile, Mwale said one suspect sustained gunshot wounds while six others escaped after the owner of the house they broke into opened fire on them using a short gun.
He stated that seven unknown people broke into the house in Lilayi area on February 24, 2023 around 02:00 hours where the owner, a 71-year-old man shot at one of them.
“Police officers were alerted and rushed to the scene where they found the suspect laying on the ground. When interrogated, he identified himself as John Mwelwa aged 25 of unmarked house number in Chalala area.
“He sustained gunshot wounds on his right arm and was rushed to the University Teaching Hospitals where he is currently receiving medical attention,” Mwale said.
He explained that the suspects entered the yard through the wall fence after cutting the electric wire.
A manhunt for the other suspects has been launched.
