Police in Mufulira are holding three women for attempting to smuggle 2,400 bags of mealie meal to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Copperbelt Police Chief Peacewell Mweemba in a statement on Monday said that they had recorded a case of assembling for the purpose of smuggling which happened around 12:00 hours.
Information was received from members of the public that unknown number of people had assembled at house number 61 Kombe street with an unknown number of bags of mealie meal and were about to be smuggled into DRC.

Mweemba said a follow up was made by the officers to the house where about 1,200 by 25 bags of mealie meal in Mataba and Olympic milling brands heaped in the garage was discovered.
Another consignment of about 1,200 were said to have been loaded onto a Fuso fighter truck registration number ALE 2049, parked inside the yard.
Police have identified the suspects as Hellen Chongo 41 of Zambian township in Mokambo, Vinet Mulenga 39 and Maureen Miyandwe 39 also of Mokambo.
He said a docket had been opened and the mealie meal has been secured by the police.
