Female model, Margaret Ngonyani, says modeling needs to be embraced as a career, even as she eyes a continental crown in South Africa this May.
Speaking in a recent interview, Ngoyani said that the art of modeling can very much be sustaining to individuals only if more investment can
be pumped in.
“Yes modeling is a career which for the longest time has been neglected and has not been embraced as a part of the Art industry despite many beauty queens winning international titles and representing and raising the Zambian flag high,” Ngoyani says.

She highlighted lack of engagement with the government or the public in general in recognising modeling and it’s benefits.
“Due to these mentioned challenges and many more, modeling in Zambia unlike other countries is not fully sustainable to many models,” she says.
Her motivation to get into the art was her elder sister’s success in the sector, thus prompting her to make a move.
“My motivation to be a model has always been my elder sister currently my manager who once was a model during a time when modeling was mis-judged to be an immoral industry hence she received less support.
“With her support I decided to take it up to show the world that modeling beyond the beautiful faces people see is backed up by real leadership, hardwork, determination, discipline and value for the culture one represents in order to be a role model,” she says.
She stressed the need for one to be a beauty queen in Zambia or anywhere else, they need to stand firm in want they believe in, be it morals, as well as standards and beliefs.
Her plans are to scoop the title of Miss Culture International where she is currently representing Zambia in April this year in Durban KwaZulu Natal, South Africa.
My hope is that finally Zambians and the government at large will come through for the modeling industry to give the full support.
Ngoyani is determined to change the face of the modeling industry in Zambia.
