A 19-year-old boy in Kitwe has attempted suicide by throwing himself into the crocodile infested Kafue river in Kitwe.
This is as he claimed that he was experiencing hardships due to poverty in his family.
Copperbelt police chief Peacewell Mweemba confirmed the development on Thursday.
This happened around 15:00 hours at council bridge in Bulangillo township.
He said a council police officer only known as Chisala reported that Daniel Mulenga of Ipusukilo township threw himself into the Kafue river in an attempt to commit suicide.

Mweemba said without telling anyone,Mulenga went to the bridge and threw himself into the river in an attempt to kill himself but members of the public who saw him throwing himself in the river.
He was swept away by the strong current, quickly followed and managed to retrieve him.
Mulenga was rushed to Kitwe Teaching Hospital, where he was resuscitated.
When he was asked why he wanted to kill himself, he said it was because of the hardships he is experiencing in his family due to severe hunger.
