Zambia’s ambassador to Belgium, Sylvester Mundanda has said Zambia’s small scale miners need a market for gemstones to avoid exploitation.
Mundanda said the Zambian government was looking for investors willing to partner with small scale gemstone miners to establish lapidaries and expand their capacity.
He said this at the Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC ) in Antwerp, Belgium in a statement made available to the Zambia Monitor on Monday by First Secretary- Press Hambaya Munang’andu.
Mundanda said he was happy to note that Zambian emeralds were already being sold among the traders in Antwerp, a sign that they are of good quality.

And one of the participating companies at the event ARGENTOR which deals in gold, has shown interest in buying Zambian gold.
Company director Jelle Oostvogels who held a side meeting with the Zambian envoy said his company was ready to buy Zambian gold as long as the supply chain was clean and the country of origin was not on the coloured list.
