Two youths from Baulani compound, are standing trial at the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court for allegedly raping an 18-year-old woman.
Elias Zulu, 27, and Davies Kawala, 22, are accused for raping the young woman last year
The victim’s harrowing ordeal began on October 22, 2024, when her friend asked her to return a phone.
As she walked to her friend’s place, she found her alone at home.
After handing over the phone, the friend decided to visit a nearby shop, where she encountered the two accused.
The friend asked Zulu and Kawala to escort the victim home, given the late hour.
However, their intentions were far from noble. As they walked, the duo suddenly changed their tune, demanding sex from the victim in exchange for their “protection.”
Despite her desperate pleas, they dragged her into a nearby bush in Twin Palm area and took turns raping her.
The victim’s traumatic experience ended with the perpetrators fleeing the scene, leaving her to pick up the pieces.
She reported the incident to the Bauleni police post the following day.
Rape carries a minimum sentence of 15 years.
