5 escape death, as six vehicles reported in accident on Chirundu-Kafue Road

Chirundu Police Traffic has recorded a road traffic accident along Chirundu-Kafue Road in Kapilingozi Hills involving six vehicles which left five people injured.

Police Public Relations Officer, Rae Hamoonga, said in a statement issued in Lusaka on Monday that two people were unhurt, while two others sustained body pains.

Hamoonga explained that the accident occurred on December 3, 2023 when the driver identified as Joe Hansi, aged 48, of City Frontier Transport Ndola was driving a Sino Howo truck with registration number BCE 9743 ZM.

Hansi was reportedly driving from West to East, failed to keep his lane in the process and went to the right side of lane and hit into five other motor vehicles which were in the queue.

Hamoonga further explained that accident left three juveniles who were passengers on a Toyota Axio registration number AEB 3895 ZM, driven by Peter Zulu, aged 39, of Chirundu Police Station with serious body injuries.

He said another driver who was in his packed motor vehicle identified as Mutavesu Henry, aged 33, of house number 861 Dvli Beti bridge South Africa sustained an injured waist.

“Naomi Lusambo, aged 30, of Kanyelele compound in Siavonga who was driving a Toyota Vitz Registration number BAV 7770 from East to West escaped unhurt. A passenger in a Toyota Vitz Sherry Mwale, aged 20, sustained a big cut on the forehead,” Hamoonga said.

He added that Jackson Siabasimbi, aged 32, of Chirundu who was driving a Mitsubishi Canter Registration number AEB 3868 ZM, escaped unhurt but had his motor vehicle damaged on the right side of the trailer.

“Shepherd Chinyama a Zimbabwean National, aged 34, of house number 445 Wood Park Gweru, Zimbabwe who was driving a Scania registration number FPP941L, trailer FLG trgistration number 523L and FLG566L, he escaped unhurt but had his three tyres from the right side his trailer damaged,” he said.

Hamoonga added that all victims who sustained serious injuries were rushed to Mutendere Mission Hospital in Chirundu District and were admitted.
