Washington – Black boxes have been recovered from the crashed American Airlines plane, with tests being carried out in a laboratory.
Meanwhile, air traffic control audio has revealed another flight at the same airport the day before used an emergency code due to helicopter traffic in the area.
Investigators have confirmed they recovered black boxes from the plane overnight and are carrying out tests in a laboratory, according to Sky news.
In an update on X, the National Transportation Safety Board said: “NTSB investigators recovered the cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder from the Bombardier CRJ700 airplane involved in yesterday’s mid-air collision in DCA.
“The recorders are at the NTSB labs for evaluation.”
Black boxes can help offer clues to investigators about what could have happened in the moments leading to the crash.
Meanwhile, 40 bodies have been pulled out of river, according to the fire department.
More bodies have been pulled out of the river, taking the total to 40, fire chief John Donnelly had said.
