Thirty-two people have been arrested in Lusaka and charged with Conduct Likely to Cause the Breach of Peace following a joint operation by the Zambia Police and Lusaka City Council.

Police Spokesperson, Rae Hamoonga, said officers, working alongside the council, conducted a crackdown on suspected junkies unlawfully occupying unfinished market shops in Kamwala South Market.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Hamoonga said the operation took place between midnight and 01:40 hours on Saturday, March 22, 2025, leading to the arrest of 32 male suspects.

“The proactive measure was taken to restore public order and ensure the safety and security of traders and residents in the area,” Hamoonga said.

He added that investigations were ongoing, and a full report would be issued after screening the suspects to determine any further charges or legal action.

“The Zambia Police Service remains committed to working with stakeholders in maintaining law and order,” he stated.

Hamoonga urged the public to report any suspicious activities and cooperate with law enforcement to create safer communities.
