The government has reportedly strengthened healthcare services ahead of this year’s Kuomboka Ceremony, distributing 300,000 condoms out of a planned 2 million to mitigate health risks during the event.
Preparations for the annual ceremony of the Lozi-speaking people, set for April 5, 2025, are in full swing under the theme: “Kuomboka – More Than Just a Migration.”
Speaking at a media briefing in Mongu on Tuesday, Acting Provincial Health Director, Dr. Loveday Mwila, said the government had also reinforced prevention services in surrounding districts, including Limulunga, Nalolo, Senanga, and Kalabo.
“We have planned to distribute 2 million condoms during this period, with over 300,000 already deployed across 46 hotspots, including bars and guesthouses,” he said.
The Ministry of Health has also outlined activities focusing on disease surveillance, health education, and prevention measures to ensure public safety.
Meanwhile, Western Province Chamber of Commerce and Industry President, Imanga Kayama, called on the business community to uphold fair pricing during Kuomboka.
He cautioned against price exploitation, urging businesses to offer reasonable prices as the province experiences a surge in visitors for the celebrations.
Western Province Minister, Kapelwa Mbangweta, announced that President Hakainde Hichilema would attend the ceremony on Saturday.
